Introduction to Dusk of Dragotha
Copyright © 2004, James L. Snyder. All Rights Reserved.
This series of short stories was written to tell the tale of the fall of the Dragothan Empire, and ultimately serves as background for a character in Ultima Online known to most as Nemesis Enforcer, but by those who have come to know him, as Valeryx. The character was created as part of a plotline involving the Cult of the Azure Dragons, lead at that time by a character I played called Ra'Dian Fl'Gith. As a group, the Cult had been working on a plotline known externally as The Seven Tomes of Dragonkind, which were ultimately meant to introduce a draconic religion to UO on the Great Lakes shard.
Nemesis Enforcer was the emissary of the Dark One, the Black Dragongod of Evil, Zenarthentolex, while those of the Cult served Nexchronisis, the Azure Dragongod of Order. The Enforcer appeared in Dracona (the in-game city created and run by various members of the Cult), and started making many threats. He wasn't taken very seriously until reports of Ra'Dian's sacrifice to Zenarthentolex began to surface. It became worse then when Ra'Dian himself appeared, no longer with blue hair, but red, and started attacking members of the Cult.
It was then that the Enforcer realized Zenarthentolex had used him as a pawn to sacrifice Ra'Dian so that Ra'Dian could be the Black One's new emissary. At that realization, he began to aid the Cult, and ultimately, through the Enforcer, Ra'Dian was freed from Zenarthentolex, and through Ra'Dian, Zenarthentolex no longer had sway over the Enforcer either.
As time went on, it was revealed that the Enforcer was purported to be the last surviving member of an ancient, and long lived race known as the Dragothans. That Dracona once was the capitol city of the Empire of Dragotha, and Nemesis Enforcer (Famis Qalil'ut in the Dragothan tongue) was Valeryx' title as one of the generals of the last Dragothan emporer. Valeryx is said to be in excess of fifteen thousand years old, and he is both mysterious in action and form.
This short series reaches back into the Enforcer's past, and looks at the fall of Dracona.
I hope you enjoy it!
